CRR Partners Up With CERES and the Moore Foundation to Address Deforestation in Brazil’s Cattle Supply Chain
The Investor Initiative for Sustainable Forests (IISF) is a working group of CERES’ Investor Network, and a joint collaboration with the PRI, that aims (amongst other) to raise awareness on the potential material financial risks of deforestation for (downstream) companies sourcing commodities such as cattle and soy.
Chain Reaction Research now partnered with CERES to research and communicate company-specific deforestation and financial risk analyses in the Brazilian cattle supply chain. This one-year project is funded by a collaboration established by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation fosters path-breaking scientific discovery, environmental conservation, patient care improvements and preservation of the special character of the Bay Area. The coverage of the Brazilian cattle sector will complement CRR’s current strategic priorities of palm oil and soy. CRR currently receives a grant from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation to focus on palm oil in Indonesia, and a grant from NORAD NICFI to mainly focus on the soy supply chain in Brazil. This new project supplements the CRR work with a cattle-related chain of activities, ensuring coverage of the two economic sectors that have been identified as the key drivers of deforestation in Brazil.
The Chain Reaction Research is a consortium effort of Aidenvironment, Climate Advisers and Profundo.
