Evaluating Dutch Foreign Policy in Latin America
Aidenvironment and Mekon Ecology have been awarded the joint task of evaluating the sustainable development component of Dutch foreign policy in Latin America during the period 2004-2011. The review will be carried out on behalf of the Inspectorate for Development Cooperation and Policy Evaluation (IOB) of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The main subject of the evaluation will be sustainable production and trade chains, the initiatives to enhance their sustainable production, the modalities used and the coherence between (intended) outcomes.
The evaluation focuses on the following four case studies, mainly in Brazil, Colombia and Bolivia:
• promotion of sustainable production and trade chains, with case studies on bio-ethanol and sustainable soy in Brazil, sustainable coal production in Colombia, forest management in Brazil and Colombia and non-timber forest products (fair and bio trade production) in Bolivia
• sustainable economic development supported by the European Union (EU) and European Community, and the Dutch position in negotiations on EU Association Agreements in Colombia
• greenhouse gas emissions and international climate policy in Brazil
• inputs to sustainability in economic diplomacy: water sector and corporate social responsibility toolkit in Brazil.
