Evaluating the Strategic Fairtrade Funding Program (SFFP)

Aidenvironment has evaluated the Fairtrade network’s donor support program, the Strategic Fairtrade Funding Program (SFFP). This evaluation supports Fairtrade in developing and implementing its strategic framework beyond 2015. Aidenvironment has evaluated the Fairtrade network’s donor support program, the Strategic Fairtrade Funding Program (SFFP), which is financed by donor agencies DFID, ICCO, Irish Aid, NORAD, and SECO. During the evaluation period from 2009 to 2013 about €21 million was donated.

The main purpose of the SFFP was to strengthen the connections between disadvantaged producers and consumers, improve producers’ market access, and empower them to combat poverty (related to MDG 1). The strategic funding mechanism implies that funds are not earmarked for a particular activity, but can be used within the organization as a whole in a flexible and unrestricted way. Fairtrade International’s leadership said the evaluation accurately reflects the achievements and the areas where

Fairtrade faces challenges, and that the report is a rich and constructive resource with targeted recommendations that will help move Fairtrade forward in developing and implementing its strategic framework beyond 2015.
