Official launch of Water, Ecosystems and Business development (WEB) cluster

The 22nd of May Aidenvironment and RAIN organized a ‘Hot Topic Event’ on Land and Water Management  in the Hortus Botanicus in Amsterdam.  During this event both organizations announced the official merger and launched the new Water, Ecosystems and Business Development (WEB) cluster. RAIN and Aidenvironment strongly believe that sustainable supply chain management must go hand in hand with the effective management of land and water. The WEB cluster will focus on advisory services in relation to value chains and water management in which RAIN and Aidenvironment will join their expertise.

The Hot Topic Event
To discuss the issues related to land and water management, Aidenvironment and RAIN invited experts and professionals from public, private and civil sector for an informative session and discussion about the interests and responsibilities of the different stakeholders in land and water management. Cora van Oosten from Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation introduced the interactive discussion explaining the landscape approach in the light of small changes and big changes. After this introduction, Eric Wakker presented a case of the landscape approach applied in the palm oil sector in Indonesia. Maarten Onneweer from RAIN presented the second case about a landscape approach program in a catchment area in Uganda. Based on these cases, the audience discussed the economic importance, stakeholder involvement and time boundaries in relation to the landscape approach.
The interactive afternoon was finalized with a toast to celebrate the merger of RAIN and Aidenvironment and the development of the Water, Ecosystems and Business development cluster.
