Supply Chain and CSR Program for Plastic Waste Recycling Sector

Aidenvironment is proud to be involved in the development, testing, and implementation of a CSR program for PT Namasindo PLAS, a leading supplier of plastic resources to the Indonesian bottled water industry. The company is a frontrunner in this area and seeks to improve working conditions and the livelihoods of the waste pickers who provide the waste plastic for recycling.

Aidenvironment and WASTE were contracted by the development finance institutions DEG (Germany) and FMO (Netherlands) and the Indonesian company PT Namasindo PLAS Indonesia to design and implement a Supply Chain and CSR program for the PET recycling branch of the business. Namasindo is a leading supplier of plastic gallons, bottle preforms, and caps to the bottled water industry in Indonesia. The company sources its raw PET from large established suppliers. The recycling arm of the business has to deal with an informally organized supply chain consisting of a number of middlemen and about 15,000 waste pickers.

The Supply Chain and CSR program aims to improve the working conditions and livelihoods of workers in the collection centers and the waste pickers in Namasindo’s supply chain. A situation analysis is currently being made to provide the basis for designing the CSR program. The program will be implemented with local stakeholders in Indonesian waste management and will last for two years.
