Survey Instrument to aid Smallholder Oil Palm Investments
Indonesian oil palm smallholders stand to reap considerable benefits in terms of productivity and income if they adopt more sustainable production systems. A survey instrument is currently being developed that can evaluate their investment, financing and assistance needs.
The survey instrument will make it possible to collect location-specific information on smallholders and show the investment opportunities open to them.
The instrument will reveal the main technical, institutional and behavioral factors that determine smallholder productivity and sustainable production practices. It permits a baseline of smallholder data to be drawn up, based on a smallholder market segmentation. This will ensure the future delivery of appropriate methods and financial products.
The tool is being developed by Aidenvironment, Global Sustainability Associates and Triodos Facet on behalf of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
