WaterShops in the Tropics 16 August 2011

Aqua-Aero WaterSystems (AAWS) that develops, produces and markets technology for clean drinking water and sanitation, is set to launch its latest project Orange Water in September 2011, a franchise for local entrepreneurs in developing countries looking to start a WaterShop. The WaterShops will use AAWS's water distilling WaterPyramid to produce safe water, which can then be sold at a small profit.

Micro Water Facility (MWF), the business development initiative incubated by Aidenvironment, secured the prefinancing for two Orange Water demonstration trials from two well-known Dutch families. "Private investors are clearly keen to invest in a good cause," according to MWF director Frederik Claasen.

Twenty-five WaterShops will shortly be opened in Indonesia. AAWS's inventor-owner Martijn Nitzsche and Claasen have found an Indonesian partner for half of the shares in the business. It is a medium-sized company that can assemble and maintain kiosks. It is then up to the shopkeeper to ensure the kiosk is profitable, for instance by selling soft drinks or rechaging mobile phones, the spin off from the same water-distilling WaterPyramid.
