Advice on community-based water management
RAIN advised Karina on how to help local communities in Timor Tengah Selatan district in Indonesia to upgrade water buffering measures and improve maintenance. RAIN made an assessment of the water situation in the selected villages and advised Karina and the local communities on the direct opportunities for implementing the 3R method. RAIN also provided advice on community organization and project management.
The villages in some areas of Timor do not have adequate water supplies during the dry season, either for household needs or for agricultural activities. Because water sources are located further away from their homes, the productivity of communities is lowered and household expenses for water sales are higher. During the rainy season, soils can trigger landslides and the soil is unable to protect the water.
The advice on different 3R methods will enable the field facilitator and technical experts to implement the interventions.
