Groupe Casino Webinar Demonstrates Financial Impact of their Deforestation Footprint
Aidenvironment, as part of the Chain Reaction Research (CRR) consortium, recently hosted a webinar demonstrating the financial and legal risks of deforestation in Groupe Casino’s supply chain. Groupe Casino is a French multi-banner food retailer, and its subsidiary Grupo Pão de Açúcar (GPA) is Brazil’s second largest retailer. The webinar was presented alongside Envol Vert and Mighty Earth. It was based on research conducted by CRR, Envol Vert and Réporter Brasil, which shows that GPA has purchased beef sourced from farms involved in illegal deforestation.
The webinar also demonstrated the potential financial risk of the ensuing legal case that the company is facing from a coalition of associations and indigenous organizations. The case of Groupe Casino illustrates how supermarkets may face material consequences if they are unable to ensure sustainability in their supply chain.
