Vacancy for Young Expert Water Management Ethiopia

We are looking for a young Ethiopian water professional that is fluent in Afaan Oromo to join our team as Young Expert in Ethiopia.

About the program

The Young Expert will be involved in the “Green Future Farming program”, a program in East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda) on water management, landscape restoration and regenerative agriculture. The program looks for innovative ways to capitalize on local value chains and creating more rewarding livelihoods. The projects offer the YE an opportunity to learn and contribute to water management interventions and livelihood improvement. The YE will be based in Ethiopia, mostly in the field office in Middle Awash region in Oromia, with regular travel to Addis.


  • The ideal candidate for this position has:
    A background in civil engineering, water management or a related field;
    Fluency in English and Afaan Oromo language;
    Ethiopian nationality;
    Qualified for the YEP criteria: https ://www.yepprogrammes.com/young experts/self test
    Capacity to (co –)design simple water harvesting structures such as gabion dams etc. under
    technical supervision;
    Capacity to supervise construction of simple water harvesting structures such as gabion dams etc.
    under technical supervision;
    Capacity to clearly communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds;
    Affinity with water projects in Ethiopia, preferably focused on IWRM and water for production;
    Capability to work in rural and remote areas, field office will be based in Doni region;
    Capability to work with local and regional government officials.
